Honor and Access for the Local Communities

Wyoming’s Wind River Country contains the seventh-largest Indian reservation in the United States. Spanning over 2.2 million acres, the Wind River Indian Reservation is home to both the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes. This reservation, and the communities that care and protect it, only resides a few miles from Lander.

The climbing and local tribal communities intertwine, as we use and respect the same outdoor spaces.

Out of this relationship, we believe in access and advocacy for the tribal communities. We believe in education that can enable these communities to experience the spaces they have cherished.

Annual Tribal Clinics

Every year during the International Climbers’ Festival, we plan climbing clinics, in partnership with Wind River Climbing Guides, to create and protect space for the tribal communities to come alongside the festival objective of access and advocacy.

We are grateful for the tribal communities’ influence in what we do as an extension of WyoClimbers, ensuring our efforts are effective in enhancing our outdoor spaces throughout the rest of the year.
